so there was this kid at this big party i was at last night, and he was smoking this salvia stuff... and i'm not really familiar with it... apparently it's legal and according to wikipedia it causes

* Visions of membranes, films and various two-dimensional surfaces
* Merging with or becoming objects
* Overlapping realities, such as the perception of being in several locations at once
my friend who smoked it was def. in the uncontrollable laughter category... and i guess another friend who's tried it before said he thought he was a robot... i'd never even heard of the stuff til last night, and therefore obviously opted not to smoke it...
I think we may have talked about this before, but it was buried in another topic.
I've tried it twice before. Apparently, if you're smoking it, you need to inhale it very deeply and hold it for a long time in order for it to work. The first time I smoked it I didn't do either enough and got nothing but a cough for my efforts: it had no effect at all.
The second time, however, I succeeded. I got the uncontrollable laughter you mentioned, as well as a complete lack of awareness concerning where I was. At one point I was standing up, fell backwards flat on my back, and did a reverse somersault back to a standing position. The twist: I had no idea I had done it until someone (laughing hysterically) described what had just happened.
I've done it twice before also. The first time was the craziest trip. I did it with a bunch of other people out of a bong the first time. It was a really big hit (a 'snapper') and I was already blazed when I did it. I had full blown visuals and the room I was in pretty dropped out of existence. It's really hard to describe if you have never experienced a full blown visual salvia trip... but basically one of the walls in the room disappeared and I could see a rolling field of grass with a really bright sun... then I saw the crease of the pages/book of life (a common upper level visual - it seems to appear that the reality you are in has a spine down the middle of it like an open book... some people are able to flip the pages in their visuals but that's only if you're really tripping).... then I met a demonic person with horns.... saw the world around me turn into Lego-esque models... and then the world folded into a single point of light which disappeared and I felt like I was floating in blackness... all the while with the voice of the demonic person telling me 'this is how the world will end'... then I woke up and the visuals were over and the slightly drunk feeling was in full effect (the after effect of salvia)
The second time... my buddy was feeding his snake a pinkie (lil' baby mice) and we smoked a little out of a pipe... there weren't any crazy trips or anything.... colors became a little more vivid and bright but that's about it.
Salvia extract comes in varying degrees of strength (i.e. 10x, 15x, 50x) so the higher the strength of the extract, the more crazy stuff will happen. 50x will make you certifiably insane afterwards... the strength I took in both instances was 35x... around 10x, 15x, and 20x, you feel more of the uncontrollable laughter stages rather than full visuals (although everybody has varying levels of tolerance to tripping). What's really interesting about salvia is very little is actually known about the chemistry of its reaction in your body. This is the reason why it isn't scheduled (i.e. illegal) like all of the other drugs out there. Varying levels of Scheduling (Schedule 1, 2, 3) often coincide with the specific chemistry of the drugs and the way it effects your body system. Since there is no real analog for what is occurring when one takes salvia (at the chemical level), it is impossible to rationally 'Schedule' the drug and thereby make it illegal thus making it one of the craziest legal substances you can take.
The full name of Salvia = Salvia divinorum and it's native to Mexico and Central America... shamans would use it for vision quests much like peyote or mescal or ayahuasca. The plant itself is a type of sage plant.... the word 'salvia' = sage in Spanish.
It's some good clean fun and you can buy the stuff at your local headshop or even sometimes mini-marts (the shady, college town ones at least). You definitely need to have a sober person in the room (a 'sitter') with you though because it is possible to hurt yourself without intending it since in full visual-mode you do lose sense of all true reality.
Some of my friends crazy encounters with salvia include: all walls in the room turning into little mouths with chattering teeth and the teeth started crawling up his leg to bite him, similar to those little toy chattering teeth things; he ran out of the room in fear screaming....another friend: a tree coming to life (an outside trip) and threatening to kill/talking to him.... two of my friends: they had a synchronous trip in which they both saw light beams of varying color in front of them and they were able to manipulate the way the light moved (they saw the same light beams supposedly and were talking to each other the whole time)... another friend: saw little glob-like monsters/creatures form out of the carpet on the floor which began to 'slime' (his word, not mine) around the room........................... all of these trips were on 30x or higher.

That's it... I'm getting a credit card, buying an ounce of 20x and waiting for it to become illegal so I can sell it all. (1 oz is worth about $750)
Michigan Legal status is up in the air right now.
Considering a bill for its ban was passed 106 to 0 in the House, I'm not seeing a close run in the Senate.

Wow. I've heard some interesting stories about selvia, but those definitely take the cake. That sounds more like LSD, but then again, I don't think people I know ever did 50x.
